The Bulletin – Edition 4
“You can’t stay in your corner of the Forest waiting for others to come to you. You have to go to them sometimes”. So says Winnie the Pooh, A.A. Milne’s most famous creation, and the source of a good number of wise and gently philosophical musings, which perhaps you have enjoyed reading to your children over the years? We very much enjoy being able to reach out to you through our weekly Bulletin, as we hope a solid and shared understanding of what we have been up to ultimately helps you to support your children at home. You will see we have a ‘new look’ for the Bulletin, as from today. We hope you will continue to enjoy reading it nonetheless! As ever, if you have any observations or comments you would like to share regarding this change to how we convey all the many and varied, rather wonderful endeavours our pupils enjoy at our School, do please get in touch.
Prep
Assemblies
5J took on the challenge as the first group to deliver a class assembly on Teams to the rest of the Prep. In his assembly later this week, Mr Ford shared the different attitudes and ideas a selected number of adults and boys here maintain when it comes to thinking about how best to respond to a challenge, no matter what it may be, and however big or small it is...
Individual Pupil Accomplishments
Arjun Dudhe in Year 3 and Thomas Usher in Year 4 have recently come to exemplify the values we hope all the pupils here are in the throes of building up within themselves...
Poetry party
Stepping into the virtual world we were able to hold our annual Hampton Prep Poetry Party! There was no holding us back with fun and energy exuding through the technology, where we bought some hilarity, some seriousness and masses of creativity to our poetry writing. The ‘revolting limericks’ certainly made our stomachs churn and our knees wobble, whereas the ‘animal limericks’ caused us to chuckle with laughter! The challenge of the ‘Blackout’ poetry was to filter out the hundreds of extraneous words to find the gems hidden amongst them, often leading to quite dramatic and moving poems. What a fantastically memorable evening!
Sports
The wind is blowing, the leaves are falling from the trees, the mornings and evenings are darker, Autumn is well and truly upon us. Whatever the conditions, we in the Games Department will endeavour to get the boys outside, active, and training.
Pre-Prep
A word from Mrs Murphy
The term seems to be passing at quite a pace, can you believe it’s only ten more school days before half term. We are pleased that our new drop off and collection arrangements are working well – we hope you don’t feel that you are having to queue up for too long at either end of the school day. On this note, we are aware that there is an overlap between the collection at the front door, so would ask the Year 1 parents with the later pick up time to wait on the pathway by the main front door in order to maintain social distancing.
Kindergarten
The well-known story, The Enormous Turnip, has been our focus in Kindergarten this week. Just as before, we discovered there are many versions of this story and, whilst characters may change, the turnip is still enormous and so tricky to pull out of ground.
Reception
Another busy week in Reception – with a definite highlight being making fruit salad! We talked about the importance of eating healthily and how important fruit is in our diets. The children then made choices about which fruits they would like in their salad - some were adventurous, deciding to try something they had never had before...
Year 1
This week in Year 1 we have been inspired by our class reader ‘The First Case’ and become detectives! The children have been very excited to find out what will happen next in the story and who indeed has stolen poor Squirrel’s nut supply!
Year 2
Year 2 have been learning how to work systematically in maths and have been spotting patterns within number. For example, if they know 3 + 2 = 5, they also know that 30 + 20 = 50. Next week, we will be adding and subtracting multiples of 10 from 1 and 2-digit numbers as well as practising number bonds for the numbers 1-20.
