The Bulletin – Edition 26
In assembly on Monday this week I introduced the boys to what we hope will be a very exciting House competition for them, as part of our build up to our Platinum Jubilee Picnic in a fortnight. At our picnic we shall award prizes for the best decorated crown, which boys have been asked to think about designing and of course then make! There will be a Royal House Parade on the day with pupils from the Pre-Prep who shall also be entering the competition. Do please encourage your children to take part. In addition to the individual House and Year group Prizes available, each individual entry will earn excellence points that we shall put towards the boys’ House totals for the term. We are very much looking forward to seeing many splendid crowns on display here!

An update on the Year 6 Leavers’ Programme:
The boys in Year 6 are continuing with their excellent array of events and activities to support their transition to Senior School in September. This week has been especially action packed, with a trip to the White Spider Indoor Climbing Centre, a joint LEH Junior School cricket match and an excellent excursion to the Science Museum today. To further their current study of Shakespeare in English lessons, yesterday Year 6 visited the Globe Theatre. After being treated to a viewing of the company rehearsing for a forthcoming production of King Lear, the boys participated in a workshop based around Macbeth. Under the direction of the actors, the boys demonstrated their knowledge of the play and displayed some promising thespian talent. It was a valuable experience, enriching their understanding of Shakespearian theatre and Tudor society.
News from Mr Salt, Head of Games
I should start this week with a comment how exciting it is to see the U10 A team developing this year under the knowledgeable coaching of Mr Bendelow. They are an exciting team, containing 5 county/borough players. The team has scored over 250 runs in two, 16 over games, Dushyant Parthipan ran 50 in one game, Kailan Sivakumaran reordered 50 runs n/o over two games and there have been some great bowling performances with Ruhaan Vinod worthy of a mention. What is most satisfying to see is the evident enjoyment with which they play the game and the teamwork that is on show. If you do want to see them play they are in action this Saturday against Newland House at the Bushy Park Sports Ground at 9am. It should be a good test for them. The U11s will also be playing and Aarav Tegginamath will be attempting to better his 50 runs against Willington Prep.
Pre-Prep
A word from Mrs Murphy
By now you will have received information about our Platinum Jubilee celebrations and, more particularly, how we shall be approaching the ‘7 Days of Service’ with the younger children here at Pre-Prep. Taking part in this activity is by no means compulsory but, that said, we hope those who do so will find it hugely rewarding. In connection with task 4, service medals have been discussed in greater depth. Each Jubilee anniversary a royal medal is made and awarded to brave, hard-working individuals who have supported The Queen during her reign. We felt hugely privileged to see three such medals for decades - 2002, 2012 and 2022 - in Thursday’s assembly. We are extremely grateful to the Thompson and Double families for sharing these with us!
Kindergarten
This week, we have been reading The Rainbow Fish story in Kindergarten. This book made us think all about being kind and sharing with our friends, and reminded us how delighted we feel when we make our friends happy. Just like the Rainbow Fish sharing his scales, we have been sharing toys and ideas with one another.
Reception
Reception have been following the topic, ‘Water’, thinking about rivers, streams and ponds. We have been taking a closer look at the life cycle of a frog and enjoyed learning about the different stages and sequences, from frog spawn, tadpole to frog. We listened to the fairy story of ‘The Frog Prince’. We talked about the stages of the story - beginning, middle and end. We were delighted with the children’s independent versions of this story, as they had recalled so much detail. We have been learning about vowels and thinking about how many words the short vowel sounds is in.
Year 1
Year 1 have loved exploring fractions this week in mathematics. The children learnt all about the ‘whole’ and finding half of a shape and a set of objects. They then applied this to finding half of a small quantity, sharing objects into equal groups. Quarters were then explored, cutting shapes and splitting objects into 4 equal parts. We all got very hungry because we invariably made an example of edible objects (cakes, pizzas AND fruit) to bring our learning to life!
Year 2
Year 2 have had an extremely busy week this week! On Wednesday, the children participated in a ‘Prep Games Taster’ session led by Mr Salt, Head of Games, in preparation for Year 3. Lots of questions were asked and answered and it is fair to say that as a result, the children are extremely excited for their Games lessons next year!
