Learning is enhanced by error, whether it involves doing a piece of homework, making friends, or taking part in sporting activities. Children learn persistence when developing new skills, along with that all-important resiliency to failure when they make them – things that come too easily don’t teach the importance of persevering, nor does one experience the enormous satisfaction one feels when things finally fall into place. Success is all the sweeter if one has worked really hard in order to achieve it. Rewards are also all the greater when children correct their mistakes independently. Thinking about a mistake, that is, truly pondering and thinking about it, leads one to finding new solutions, and this in turn has the bonus of enhancing one’s problem solving and critical thinking skills.
We endeavour to build a supportive environment where children are inspired to try – even if they turn out to be wrong. Furthermore, hard work and determination prepare us for the ups and downs that will inevitably be faced in real life.
‘No matter how many mistakes you make or how slow you progress, you are still way ahead of everyone who isn’t trying’.
In some of our assemblies this term, we have been exploring and embedding our school values – perseverance, honesty, teamwork and integrity, which were originally chosen by the different Houses following the last pastoral review. Windsor’s associated value is perseverance – I wonder if your child / children will be able to explain it’s meaning to you this weekend?
This week the Courtesy Cup and Badge went to Finlay P (Year 2) for his kindness and loyalty to his friends, and for smiling throughout the school day!

Many congratulations to the following children: Noah (Reception) for receiving the Oursons Beginner Badge ESF Ski School, Lani (Year 1) for her Learn to Swim Award Stage 2, Akshen (Year 2) for his trophy in celebration of being player of the match at his football club, Abbey Rangers, Henri (Year 2) for receiving a medal for his excellent performance at the Wasps rugby festival, and to several members of Year 2 – Charlie, Harry, George and Finlay M – for their medals for taking part in the London Welsh Rugby Festival.
Next week is going to be super busy… so deep breath! Firstly, there will be two trips off-site, Year 2 to the Roald Dahl Museum and Reception to RHS Wisley. We also have author, Annemarie, visiting Pre-Prep on Wednesday and of course World Book Day takes place on Thursday – don’t forget your child / children should come dressed up as a character from a favourite book on that day.
