Developing resilience, independence and creativity are aspirations and ideals that all in education wish to promote. At Hampton Prep we aim to broaden pupils’ horizons, challenge set ideas and stretch their experiences in a positive and safe environment. To that end we run our own bespoke leadership skills-development programme: the L.I.O.N. Award.
L.I.O.N. = LEADERSHIP, INDEPENDENCE & OPPORTUNITIES TO NURTURE
The L.I.O.N. Award commences in Year 3 with the Bronze Award. Pupils progress through Silver in Year 4 and work to achieve Gold standard in Year 5. Each level consists of five different elements which are all designed to encourage initiative and independence and is similar in concept to The Duke of Edinburgh Award taken by many pupils in secondary school.
The five sections in each level are:
- Celebrating Difference
- Community Service
- Skilled Activity & Yet!
- Creativity Portfolio
- Open Homework
The L.I.O.N. Award reinforces all that we do at Hampton Prep to develop our pupils’ abilities to make decisions and think for themselves. The initiative is designed to enable our young people to assess situations, use their judgement soundly and set an exemplary standard of behaviour overall. We want our pupils to understand their own place in our society and how, ultimately as a potentially excellent leader, they can have a positive impact upon it.
