Our purpose-built Library caters for all ages at the Prep School. It is well stocked and currently offers over 1,500 fiction books and 2,000 non-fiction books, with new books arriving every week.
Pupils are encouraged to use the Library on a regular basis. They can pop in during breaks and at lunchtimes to browse and borrow books. All new pupils are given an ‘Introduction to the Library’ lesson by the Librarian, during which they receive a Library Guide and a story about Dewey.
The Library is managed by a full-time member of staff, Mrs Gellner-Ward, who works closely with the Hampton School Librarian and the Head of English in order to decide which books to purchase and to develop new initiatives.
Each year, pupils may volunteer to be a Librarian. They spend one or two sessions per week in the Library (at lunchtime or break) issuing books, putting books back on the shelves or tidying. We are very grateful to these boys and encourage any others to apply.
