The children delivered their lines with such poise and confidence and clearly loved learning about this courageous individual who dared to be different. We all felt inspired by Mae’s quote, “Don’t let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It’s your place in the world; it’s your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make the life you want to live” – fine words to live one’s life by, we believe! Naturally, they concluded their assembly with a resounding rendition of ‘Reach for the Stars’.
Recent assemblies have also seen us remembering the bravery, courage and strength of all individuals associated D-Day, looking back at how the top-secret mission, Operation Overlord, planned by General Dwight D Eisenhower paved the way for the liberation of much of north west Europe.
We have marvelled at the bravery and courage shown by so many at this time but, in particular, Christian Lamb and Cecil Newton. Christian Lamb, now 104 years old, but at that time a young girl serving in the Wren, drew maps guiding the operation and was awarded with the Legion d’honneur by President Macron last week. Cecil Newton, who turned 100 years old in December 2023, arrived at Gold Beach on 6 June 1944 with his squadron the 4/7th Royal Dragoon Guards and went on to play a pivotal part in freeing the village, Cruelly Sur Seulles in Normandy; it has since been named after him. All incredibly brave and selfless individuals – it is so important we remember their hand in history.
This week the Courtesy Cup and Badge went to Willem for being such a kind and helpful team-mate. Willem is always willing to lend a hand and think of others before himself.
and Stars of the Week were awarded to:
Year 2: Neeth for his inquisitive, enthusiastic approach to our school trip to The Living Rainforest (on his birthday no less!).
Year 1: Noah for learning his lines beautifully and performing in our class assembly with such gusto!
Reception: Krishna for his fantastic effort in reading, with expression, fluency and comprehension.
We congratulated the following children in assembly yesterday: Bodie (Reception) for achieving his yellow belt in kickboxing grading recently, Noah (Reception) for his Seahorse swimming award and Krishna (Reception) for his two certificates – Aquatots and 160m distance, and to Karam (Year 2) for his swimming award – very well done to all!
