Taking turns is more than a simple rule—it’s an act of consideration. Whether in conversation or in the playground, waiting for your turn shows that you value the other person’s voice and presence. It demonstrates patience, fosters empathy and helps create a space where everyone feels included. By practising turn-taking, we learn that respect is a two-way street.
Another key aspect of beautiful manners is allowing others to speak without interruption. In our fast-paced world, it can be tempting to jump in and share our thoughts before someone else has finished. However, true listening means focusing on what others are saying, not just waiting for our turn to talk. When we allow others to express themselves fully, we show respect for their ideas and opinions. This not only builds stronger relationships but also creates a more supportive and understanding community.
We all have a responsibility to lead by example when it comes to manners. Small actions—like holding the door for someone, saying “please” and “thank you,” or offering a kind word—help build a culture of kindness and mutual respect. These habits form the cornerstone of how we interact with the world, and when practised consistently, they remind us that true strength lies in humility and consideration for others.
By encouraging beautiful manners, we help children grow into well-rounded, thoughtful individuals. After all, manners maketh man—and it is through these small acts of grace that we truly leave a positive mark on the world.
Reception had a fantastic time on their recent trip to Pizza Express. The children not only had great fun creating their own pizzas but also learned about the importance of healthy eating and where different ingredients originate. It was delightful to see them leaving school proudly carrying their pizza boxes – I’ve heard they were absolutely delicious! A huge thank you to Miss Johnston and Mrs O’Brien for organising such a memorable experience, but also to our kind minibus drivers Mr Gellner-Ward and Ms Jemson, as well as our two wonderful parent helpers for their support on the day.
Our week concluded with a fantastic assembly led by Year 1, taking us on a nostalgic journey through 100 years of beloved toys. It certainly brought back fond memories of my own childhood favourites! A big thank you to Year 1 for delivering such a captivating and heart-warming presentation.
This week the Courtesy Cup and Badge went to Sebastian (Year 2) for showing excellent manners to adults and friends at all times. We are so lucky to have your calm, thoughtful presence in the classroom.
