In maths we have combined our knowledge of the part-whole model and addition facts to explore number bonds within 10.  Starting with the whole, the children broke numbers into parts and explored how many ways a number can be partitioned. They even worked systematically to find all the possible number bonds.  We realised that working methodically, in an organised way, was the key to being successful in maths.  What a lot of super mathematicians we have in Year 1!

In science, the children have been interested to learn about different animal groups. We learnt about the features of reptiles, amphibians, fish, mammals, birds and insects/invertebrates, and then tried our luck at a quiz to check our knowledge.  We were interested to learn that dolphins and whales were classified as mammals – ask your child to tell you why!  We can’t wait to look at all the pet photos in next week’s science lesson!
