Exploring Houses Across the World – We embarked on a journey around the globe to learn about different types of houses and their unique designs. From traditional homes to modern builds, we discovered how cultures, climates and environments influence architecture.

Creative Designs – Inspired by our newfound knowledge, the class took on the role of architects and designed their very own houses to create their perfect homes! Their imaginative creations showcased some truly splendid designs, including buildings on water, houses with wheels and eco-friendly structures!

A Special Storytime – On Tuesday, we were delighted to have Mr Smith read us a story in our new classroom. He shared Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty, a tale about a young boy who loves to build but whose teacher does not initially appreciate his designs—until he builds a much-needed structure that saves the day!

Building and Construction – In the classroom and outdoor area, our Reception Class builders have been busy bringing their designs to life using construction toys! They worked collaboratively, developing their fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and problem-solving abilities. We also learned about jobs in the construction industry, including the roles of architects, engineers, and builders. This has helped us appreciate the teamwork and expertise required to create the buildings around us. We have especially enjoyed thinking about the new buildings at Hampton Pre-Prep and our incredible new classroom design!

Share Your Iconic Building Visits – please don’t forget to send in any photos of your child visiting iconic buildings around the world! You can email them to:

Thank you to those who have already sent photos – we are creating a fabulous display showcasing where we have been!

In mathematics, we have been practising addition and subtraction using a number line. We carefully counted our answers by jumping up and down the number line. We have also been revisiting 2D and 3D shapes, identifying their names and properties.

Next week, we will be looking for ‘Signs of Spring’, hoping for some more warm sunshine!
