Another proud moment this week was the House Poetry Competition, where our Year 2 finalists performed brilliantly in front of the whole Prep School. They recited their poems with clarity, expression, and the storytelling skills of true performers. Their confidence and enthusiasm shone through, and they did themselves—and their Houses—proud! Kian was announced as the overall year group winner, but they all should be very pleased with their achievement.
The finalists were:
York (Green): Seby – Kitten-Man, Crime Fighter by A.F Harrold
Windsor (Yellow): Kian – Please Mrs Butler by Allan Ahlberg
Tudor (Blue): Cameron – Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll
Lancaster (Red): Charles – I did not want to go with them by Bill Watterson
In mathematics, the children completed their learning on volume and capacity, using their skills to solve questions involving the four operations. We have been impressed by their ability to tackle a range of one-step and multi-step problems, carefully identifying the correct operations to use. They were also introduced to temperature, thermometers, and the unit degrees Celsius (°C) for the first time. We explored the language of temperature—hot, warm, cold—and enjoyed reminiscing about past holidays and dreaming of future travels as we discussed different climates and temperatures. Using their knowledge of number lines, the children read scales and coloured thermometers to represent various temperatures.
In English, Year 2 have completed their own adventures with Bob, The Man on the Moon, inspired by Simon Bartram’s brilliant series of books. Making excellent use of their planning, they wrote some exciting story openers, and some even completed their entire stories!
In science and life skills, Year 2 have been learning about health and growth. This week, they focused on the different food groups that provide our bodies and brains with essential nutrients to stay healthy and happy. We have also enjoyed taking part in 10-minute workouts designed and filmed by members of Year 2—these movement breaks are much loved, and we shall all be super fit in time for Easter!
Have a wonderful weekend!
