In English, the children enjoyed reading ‘The Shaman’s Apprentice’ by Lynne Cherry, and were delighted to find out about the work of the co-author and ethnobotanist Mark J. Plotkin. The children went on a voyage of discovery with him in a film of his work with the Tirio Indians; they actually got to see the real live Kamanya – the Shaman’s Apprentice – working now as the tribe’s shaman. His twin sons are now his apprentices! We were able to put ourselves in the shoes of the rainforest tribes and to understand the glorious, medicinal powers of the rainforest.
During maths, the children have continued to learn how to tell the time and have started telling the time to the nearest 5 minutes. The ‘to’ times are always more challenging and there is still more work to be done on this. Please encourage your child to tell the time at home using an analogue clock.
Wishing you a wonderful weekend and looking forward to our trip to the Living Rainforest next Friday!
