We enjoyed reading the story Mouse Paint, a story about three mischievous mice who jump into pots of primary-coloured paint and create all sorts of colourful chaos! The story introduced us to the idea of mixing primary colours to make secondary ones, which inspired our own colourful creative writing.

Using pipettes, the children explored colour mixing with coloured water. They carefully squeezed out droplets and watched in awe as the colours spread, mixed, and changed before their eyes. At the tuff tray, this activity was especially popular, with children eagerly observing how new colours were created.

In maths, we explored symmetry, using drawings to create symmetrical patterns. We also looked at numbers beyond 20. With the help of a 100 square, we counted the potatoes harvested from our garden—and discovered we had grown an impressive 64 potatoes! On Friday, we celebrated with the tastiest potato salad, made even more special because the children had grown the potatoes themselves.

On Thursday the children enjoyed their second moving up morning with Mrs Timba and Mrs Swain. Next week is our last week in Reception class, so we will be looking back at our learning and talking about our exciting transition into Year 1. It has been an absolute joy to teach Reception class this year and watch the children grow in confidence, curiosity, and independence. Their progress has been remarkable, and we are so proud of everything they have achieved.
