We haven’t chosen a colour as the theme for our Open Homework weeks in the Pre-Prep & Prep for quite some time, so it felt only right to do so this year and what better choice than pink?
In the spirit of research and curiosity, I did a little investigating of the theme of my own this week. To my surprise, I discovered that in Victorian times pink was considered a decidedly masculine colour, emblematic of qualities such as strength, military might, authority, and the rather outdated idea that emotions were best kept firmly under wraps! Somewhere along the way, the colour’s meaning evolved, and today it represents a wonderfully broad range of ideas from kindness and joy to confidence, creativity, and courage.
Whatever its interpretation, it was terrific to see how the pupils at both the Pre-Prep & Prep responded to this year’s theme. True to form, they asked their own thoughtful questions, explored ideas from every possible angle, and produced work that was as imaginative, original, and expressive as ever. Their projects remind us that curiosity, creativity, and courage of thought will never go out of fashion – in any colour!
