We have enjoyed sharing many books and stories about the weather, especially listening to the biography of Amelia Earhart from the Little People, Big Dreams series. The children were inspired by her life story and her dream of flying from a young age. They learned that she became the first female pilot to set a world record by flying up to 14,000 feet and that she also flew across two oceans – the Atlantic and the Pacific.
The children loved sharing their amazing Holiday Snapshots, and it was wonderful to hear detailed discussions about the places they visited. We were also very impressed with their written diaries and delighted by the care taken to record their favourite days. This week, we have been writing about our favourite day during the Easter break, revising our sounds and digraphs, and learning the ‘ay’ digraph.
In mathematics, we have been exploring and comparing length and height. The children ordered objects from shortest to tallest and enjoyed using non-standard units, such as Unifix cubes, to measure different superheroes. We also used rulers to measure caterpillars in centimetres. Inspired by our conversations about the wind, the children made number bond kites with Mrs O’Brien. Reception have also continued developing their number skills by counting to 100 with Jack Hartmann exercises.
Please remember to return your library folder, as we will be choosing a new library book on Tuesday.
Next week we will be continuing ‘Mindfulness and sky’ with a focus of the ‘The Water Cycle’.
Have a lovely weekend!
