Year 1 enjoyed an educational and exciting trip to the Winchester Science Centre. From the moment we arrived, the children were full of curiosity and enthusiasm for the day ahead.
We started our visit with a trip to the planetarium, where we were able to journey through the planets of our solar system and observe a variety of constellations sparkling across the night sky. The children were fascinated to learn about the meanings and stories behind the constellations, making the experience both magical and informative. It was an incredible experience and the closest many of us have ever felt to being in space!
Throughout the day, the children also had the opportunity to explore many exciting scientific activities linked to sound and communication. They experimented with music, discovered how sign language can help people communicate, and learnt about decibels and how sound travels. The interactive exhibits encouraged the children to investigate, question, and explore in a hands-on way.
We also ventured onto a replica spaceship, where the children learnt even more about space and space travel. They discovered fascinating facts about temperatures in space, the enormous dimensions of planets and stars, and the challenges astronauts face when exploring beyond Earth.
To round off our fantastic trip, we visited the science labs. Here, the children became real scientists as they designed and created their own rockets. The excitement grew as they launched their rockets into the air and even raced them against one another! There were smiles, cheers, and lots of excitement as the children tested out their creations.
The children thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to learn through play and investigation, and they represented the school brilliantly throughout the trip. It was a memorable day full of discovery, teamwork, and fun, which will no doubt inspire many future scientists and explorers in Year 1.
