Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic trip to London to see the acclaimed musical Hadestown at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

The production reimagines the Ancient Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice, alongside Hades and Persephone, through the atmosphere of a Depression-era love story. Alongside its outstanding music and storytelling, the show explored powerful themes including climate change and the consequences of hoarding wealth while others suffer – ideas which sparked thoughtful discussion amongst the pupils.

The singing throughout the performance was exceptional, and pupils were fascinated to see the live band performing on stage rather than hidden in a pit. The cast also demonstrated excellent stagecraft, remaining fully in character even when not at the centre of the action – a valuable lesson for our own budding performers.

The set design was particularly striking, with the dramatic depiction of Hadestown itself standing out as a visual highlight of the production.

Our Year 6 pupils represented the school wonderfully throughout the day, and of course, no theatre trip would be complete without an interval ice cream enjoyed by all!

A truly memorable experience and a fantastic opportunity to deepen pupils’ understanding of Greek mythology, theatre, and the performing arts.
