With Mr Smith currently away from school, present at an IAPS event, I am very pleased to be writing this week’s bulletin in what has been a particularly busy but extremely cheerful and exciting week.
Prep Schools are wonderful places to work, in my opinion. They are busy, engaging environments that prepare young people for not only their senior and secondary education, but life beyond. This week has been a terrific example of this endeavour here at our School as boys have enjoyed experiences that contribute towards this preparation and development for their next steps.
A huge number of children have been refining their public speaking skills in preparation for their LAMDA examinations that took place this week, whilst boys in Year 3 and Year 4 have been hands-on making healthy food with the help of our catering team, complimenting the topics they are exploring in their life skills lessons. Parents in Year 5 and Year 6 have been listening to presentations from teaching colleagues here about the sports tours and residential trips that are on the horizon for their boys which provide them with the opportunity to be away from home with friends and find out a little more about themselves. The notion of thinking about others, something that firmly sits high in the hearts and minds of us all here, continued as members of the school council sold Krispy Kreme doughnuts throughout the day on Wednesday raising money for Animal Welfare; many thanks to our HPPPA who not only provided the doughnuts but have generously agreed to match the monies raised – more on this to come when the adding up has been done!
And finally, with news beginning to filter through regarding the results of the Primary Maths Challenge – a fiercely competitive competition where the headline news thus far is that our Year 5 and Year 6 boys have secured a top 10 finish out of more than 500 schools – the English Department was not to be outdone as World Book Day proved to be a most enjoyable occasion with plenty of pupils (and teachers!) dressing up as their favourite book characters. Boys enthusiastically took part in a carousel of excellent literary activities, including a visit from Annabel Steadman, author of the very popular Skandar series. Please do take a look through the photographs from the day.
Have a great weekend ahead.
