Prep

News from Mr Salt - Head of Sport

It has been an exciting start to the sporting term, with all year groups in action this week and a total of 21 football fixtures taking place. By all reports, the matches were played in the spirit of great sportsmanship, teamwork and effort. Of the 12 results recorded so far, the boys returned with an impressive 10 victories, making it a very positive opening week.

Year 5 Art Workshops

Year 5 pupils explored the history and theory of colour, considering how artists created paints before the Industrial Revolution and how colour theory developed in the 1800s. They experimented with colour combinations and explored how warm, cool, light and dark colours can affect the mood of an artwork. Pupils also explored mark-making and created self-portraits inspired by artists including Vincent van Gogh and Rachel Jones. They then created their own still-life paintings, inspired by Wayne Thiebaud’s idea that “every age has its own still life”.

News from Mrs Murphy

It has been wonderful to see life settle back into its natural rhythm here at school. This week, we are incredibly proud of our Kindergarten children, who have taken to school life like ducks to water. Seeing happy, smiling faces each day is what it is all about and, however simple it may sound, I firmly believe that happy children learn best.

Kindergarten

This week, Kindergarten have thoroughly enjoyed exploring our topic, ‘Getting to Know You’. The children loved sharing their family photographs with the class, proudly pointing out and naming their family members. These lovely photos are now on display in our classroom. If you have not yet sent one in, there is still time, as we would love to include your family, too!

Reception

We have had a very busy week in Reception as we completed our second full week of school! Our learning has focused on the topic ‘Making Our Mark’. The children enjoyed recognising and creating their names using pasta, resulting in a bright and colourful display in our classroom.

Year 1

It’s been a busy and strong to the year with Year 1. This week saw us start White Rose Maths, diving straight into word problems and working on addition word problems, with some children confidently tackling numbers up to 100. Alongside this, we also began our brand-new addition and subtraction workbooks, giving the children plenty of opportunity to practise and build their confidence with number work. Times tables have also started this week, and the children put in some great effort during today's test practice, showing real focus and determination.

Year 2

Year 2 have had a very busy week! In maths, we have been learning about the place value of 2-digit numbers and have had a lot of fun partitioning them in different ways, using a range of apparatus. We will continue learning about number and place value next week. We started our Autumn Term topic, “Amazing Africa” by learning about the seven continents and five oceans of the world. Our focus next week will be to identify hot and cold areas of the world in relation to the equator, before we start learning all about different countries and their cultures within Africa.
