Mr Smith captivated us with delightful photographs from the decades and insights into how families have transformed—how they live, work, and support one another. From the bustling, multi-generational households of the 1920s to the beautifully diverse family structures of today, we’ve seen how families have grown and adapted over the decades. No matter what a family looks like, love is what makes it strong. Caring for each other, being kind, and spending time together are the most important things, we believe!
It was wonderful to see some of you at our Reading Information Evening last night, we truly hope you found it both informative and inspiring. As a passionate advocate for the magic of picture books, I can’t stress enough how these beautifully crafted stories can ignite a lifelong love of reading. Picture books aren’t just for young children—they’re rich, meaningful tales that offer a window into the world. Reading aloud to children teaches them not only about the wonders of storytelling but also helps them grow emotionally, socially, and intellectually.
The 2019 study by the Literacy Trust found that children who engage with reading and writing enjoy better mental wellbeing than those who don’t? It’s amazing how the simple joy of a good book can have such a profound impact.
If you’re looking for even more reading inspiration, let me introduce you to Marilyn Brocklehurst from the Norfolk Children’s Book Centre. Marilyn’s passion for children’s literature is absolutely contagious! I highly recommend checking out her website—her love for books is impossible to resist. You can reach her at marilyn@ncbc.co.uk, or visit the Norfolk Children’s Book Centre at Church Lane, Alby, Norwich NR11 7HB, that is, if you are ever holidaying in that area – you won’t be disappointed!
For those in search of the perfect book for every occasion, I can’t recommend ‘The Story Cure: An A-Z of Books to Keep Kids Happy, Healthy and Wise’ by Ella Berthoud and Susan Elderkin enough. This gem is packed with book recommendations to ‘cure’ anything from bedtime reluctance to boredom. Imagine it as your very own bookish medicine cabinet!
