Whether during circle time, a classroom discussion, or a simple chat over break, adults here model the art of listening by making eye contact, asking thoughtful questions, and showing genuine curiosity about the children’s ideas and experiences. We aim to instil these habits in our pupils, helping them to connect meaningfully with others.

Small moments of active listening can make a world of difference. Pausing to let your child finish their story without interruption or reflecting back what they’ve said to show you understand. These small gestures, like putting aside distractions, teach children that their voices truly matter, empowering them to be thoughtful communicators.

To support this effort, we kindly ask that you avoid using your mobile phone when dropping off or collecting your child. This small action demonstrates your presence and attentiveness, reinforcing the value of active listening in these precious moments. By working together, we can model the importance of active listening and create meaningful interactions for our children.

Together, as educators and parents, we can create an environment where every child feels valued and heard. After all, listening is more than a skill – it’s a gift we can give to one another every day.

This week’s recipient of the Courtesy Cup and BadgeFinn (Year 1) for ALWAYS displaying excellent whole-body listening skills, and for his interest and engagement in daily school life.  What a superstar!

and Stars of the Week went to the following children:

Year 2:  Shreyan for writing a magical story, completely unaided, using complex sentences and ambitious vocabulary.  Well done!

Year 1: Clara for a fantastic work ethic – always working hard to reach the challenge work.  Keep up the great work!

Reception:  Ivaan for his fantastically informative ‘show and tell’ about 200 dinosaur footprints found in Oxfordshire.

We also congratulated Amir-Ali (Reception) for his amazing contribution of £500 to a children’s charity in Iran – very well done.

A number of colleagues here are participating in the Royal Marsden’s “Jog 40 Miles in January” Challenge in memory of our dear friend and colleague, Diane Gellner-Ward. If you would like to join us in supporting this incredible hospital and their vital research, and help raise much-needed funds, we would be hugely grateful of your support.  Please follow the link below for more details
