I am thrilled to introduce our brand-new Year 2 Eco Councillors – Kian, Rafe, Tristan and Ethan—whom we have proudly named the Eco Warriors here at Hampton Pre-Prep. Each of them has been selected for their passion for protecting the environment, enhancing our school both inside and out, and their wealth of ideas on how we can work towards greater eco-sustainability.
Over the past two weeks, the Eco Warriors have joined forces with the School Council and have been busy planning eco-friendly fundraising projects for the term ahead in support of the London Air Ambulance. They shared their plans with their peers in yesterday’s assembly.
The first initiative, organised in collaboration with the HPPPA, involves recycling pre-loved World Book Day costumes that your child may have outgrown, and which are now gathering dust. To this end, they will be assisting Mrs Jepson and Ms von Allemann in organising a sale of these costumes from 3.20pm on Friday 28th February—keep an eye out for their posters!
Secondly, they will be running an exciting competition to create a helicopter from recycled materials. Those wishing to take part have until Monday 24th March to craft their ‘copters. There will be an entrance fee of £2, with all proceeds going to the London Air Ambulance.
In our research, we discovered some incredible facts about the London Air Ambulance Charity:
- It costs £15 million per year to provide their life-saving service.
- Their helicopters have an average flight time of just 7.5 minutes and can reach anywhere in London (within the M25) in 11 minutes.
- On average, their team treats five seriously injured patients every day.
I am working to arrange a visit from the London Air Ambulance team but, as you can imagine, they are in high demand!
