In assemblies this week we have been building on our theme ‘Skills for Life and Skills for Learning’. Mr Smith delivered a thought-provoking assembly on the remarkable life of Louis Braille. Through the story of Braille’s life-changing accident and his extraordinary resilience, pupils were inspired by his unwavering determination to improve the lives of blind individuals. His pioneering invention of the Braille system not only transformed accessibility for millions but also stands as a powerful reminder of how adversity can spark innovation.
Friday concluded on a high note as Year 2 pupils built on our current theme leading a lively and engaging assembly, centred around essential skills for life and learning. With infectious enthusiasm, they explored one of our core school values, perseverance, highlighting its importance not only in the classroom but throughout life. Their thoughtful reflections and confident performances served as a powerful reminder of how resilience and determination can help us overcome challenges and achieve our goals.
Hold onto your hats, ‘Open Homework’ is coming! One of the most exciting weeks of the year is just around the corner, Open Homework Week begins on Monday 6 October, and we can’t wait to reveal this year’s theme. Keep an eye out for the letter landing soon!
Each year, we dedicate a whole week to this special event, giving every pupil from Kindergarten to Year 2 the chance to explore a wide-open theme that sparks imagination, curiosity and lateral thinking. During this time, regular prep is paused (with the exception of daily reading and the learning of spellings), allowing children to dive deep into their own creative process.
The possibilities are endless, from writing poems and crafting stories to designing toys, inventing games, building 3D models, cooking up culinary creations or producing digital masterpieces. There’s no limit to what the children can create, whether they explore geography, history, science or art, the only rule is to have fun while learning something new.
Over the last ten years, themes such as ‘100’, ‘7’, ‘round’, ‘red’ and ‘joy’ have inspired truly remarkable projects. We know this year will be no different and we simply can’t wait to be amazed by the originality and brilliance of our pupils’ work. So, get ready to think big, dream boldly and create something wonderful. Open Homework Week is nearly here — and it’s going to be spectacular!
This week the Courtesy Cup and Badge went to Sebi for consistently being polite and considerate to friends and adults alike. Sebi tries his best at all times and is an utter role model. Well done!

Finally, some exciting news from our Autumn Term school councillors! They met for the first time this week and are thrilled to share their plans for the term ahead. They will be offering targeted support to The Hygiene Bank, a fantastic cause that helps those in need access essential hygiene products. We’re also delighted to announce that the HPPPA will be joining forces with them to amplify their efforts.
To kick things off, all Pre-Prep children are invited to come to school dressed in a Halloween costume for just £1. Every pound raised will go directly to The Hygiene Bank and, even better, the HPPPA will match all donations, doubling the impact! A flyer with full details will be sent home shortly. Thank you for your support in helping our children make a meaningful difference this term.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!
