Year 2 children are greatly enjoying opportunities to visit Prep this term, undertaking taster sessions with different members of staff to support their transition to Year 3 come September.  So far, they have taken part in a games session with Mr Salt, Head of Games, a science session making slime with Mrs Morris, Head of Science, and today have loved a taster French session with Mr Smith. Next half term, our younger children here at Pre-Prep have several opportunities to visit their next class teacher(s), spending time in new classroom surroundings and generally start preparing for the year ahead.

Monday’s assembly saw the children exploring disagreement in the form of one of Aesop’s fables, the sun and the wind. We discovered how his stories have been retold over hundreds of years and were not actually written down until more recent times. Having acted out the story, we all agreed that boastfulness quite often leads to disagreements and, in such situations, it is probably best to ignore those who boast and simply walk away.

Along with the whole of Hampton School Trust, your child will be bringing home a small pack of seeds today in support of Mental Health Awareness Week to recognise the importance of taking pleasure from nature. W.H. Davies’ poem sums this up beautifully – ‘What is life, if full of care, We have not time to stand and stare…’, the children received instruction on how to go about planting up their seeds and we very much hope you all enjoy the resulting mix of wildflowers – poppies, corn chamomile and corn marigolds!

I am delighted to announce we have six brand new School Councillors elected by their peers to represent them and, more particularly, their views and ideas up until the end of this school year.  Sitting on School Council until July are the following children:

Reception: Benedict and Frank

Year 1: Rayan and Harry

Year 2: Felix and Theo

We look forward to hearing what initiatives they will champion on behalf of their peers under the guidance of Miss Maynard, who will be writing to you soon on their behalf.

Have a super weekend!
