At the start of the week, we discussed the fact it was Martin Luther King Jr Day and the context to this important occasion, agreeing how very glad we are that times have changed significantly since the 1950s. The children were extremely good at remembering Rosa Parks’ connection to the events but this also led very nicely into discussion around Martin Luther King Jr’s Christian beliefs. We linked this to our School House values – do ask your child/children if they can remember all four values associated with the different Houses?
On Thursday, I shared photographs of my wedding, including the church where the ceremony took place, as well as parts of my outfit – for example, the veil worn on the day. Following on from this, I asked the children to bring in photographs of any weddings they have attended, or even possibly yours, with your permission of course, as I fully appreciate how precious such items can be. It would be lovely to be able to compare similarities and differences around wedding ceremonies in different religions.
Friday saw the first of our class assemblies this term and we greatly enjoyed Year 1’s presentation around Lunar New Year. Thank you to Year 1. Our thanks also to Arthur’s mummy for coming in to talk to Year 1 about this celebration – please do read Mrs Timba’s write up of the week for further explanation. Happy Lunar New Year tomorrow to you all!
Our new School Councillors for the term ahead were announced in assembly and are as follows: Seby and Henry H (Reception), Arthur and Harry (Year 1) and Hari and Jasper (Year 2). We look forward to hearing their ideas over the coming term.
The recipient of the Courtesy Cup and Badge this week was Rosie (Year 2) for courteous behaviour during PE, and walking so sensibly to and from Pre-Prep, but also for ALWAYS being such a kind friend.
and Stars of the Week to the following pupils:
Year 2: Jasper for being our number 1 maths whizz, and also for working hard on his handwriting.
Year 1: Anne for being a maths whizz this week and working so hard in all her lessons – what a star!
