This week, we have been learning all about bread, from field to bakery – that is, from the farmer sowing seeds to grow wheat, to the wheat being harvested and milled into flour. We examined some real wheat up close. Then came the highlight of the week: making our own bread rolls! Unlike the animals in the story last week, we were all extremely helpful, carefully weighing the flour and other ingredients. After shaping the dough into rolls, we waited for the ‘magic yeast’ to make them grow before popping them into the oven. We then waited patiently for our bread to bake. They smelled delicious, and we couldn’t wait to take them home.
We also had fun cutting and using Sellotape to make our own hen masks, which we then used to act out the story with our friends. Using our hands, paint, and oil pastels, we enjoyed creating Little Red Hen pictures, which are displayed in our classroom. We also used coloured shapes to create our own unique Little Red Hen artwork.
We continue to learn about our Golden Rules, and this week we focused on the final two: ‘Do Look After Property’ and ‘Do Be Honest’. We also discussed the importance of ‘listening the first time’ to our friends and teachers.
Next week, our topic will be, The Enormous Turnip.
