We also explored Henrietta’s First Winter by Rob Lewis. Henrietta the dormouse is busy gathering food for winter, but things don’t go quite as planned. Ask us what surprise happens at the end!

These stories got us chatting about all the amazing animals in autumn, like dormice, queen bumblebees, bats and hedgehogs, who are all preparing for their long winter nap. We even sorted animals into two groups: those who will hibernate and those who will migrate to warmer places!

We watched a programme all about hedgehogs and learned to be careful when raking leaves as hedgehogs might be snoozing under there! We also discovered a hedgehog hospital, and then we got creative! Using clay, we made our own hedgehogs, adding matchstick spikes and googly eyes.

One of our favourite activities was hammering golf tees into Mrs Tomkins’ giant pumpkins—she grew them from seeds in her garden, and they’re HUGE!  We loved exploring our ‘autumn collections,’ especially the spiky horse chestnut outside, which had a smooth conker inside. We even made cosy nests for our hedgehogs in our small world play!

Our special friend, ‘Shareodactyl,’ has been reminding us to share our toys and ideas but a new dinosaur named, ‘Tryatops’ has joined us, who’s teaching us to “have a go” at everything!

We also had so much fun showing our awesome ‘100 Years’ Open Homework creations. Everyone did an amazing job sharing their projects with the class!

We continue to work through the Jolly Phonics scheme. Please click here  for correct sound pronunciation – it is really important the children learn pure, crisp sounds from the off.

After half term, get ready for our exciting topic: Autumn Celebration.
