This week, aliens visited Kindergarten! They left us a letter and lots of objects. The letter explained that the alien, Sporkle, needed magnetic items from our classroom to fix their spaceship. They asked us to sort through the objects in the bucket to help with the repair. So, we went on a mission to help our alien friends! We used jumbo magnets and magnetic wands to identify the magnetic objects, sorting them into two groups. Then, we carefully searched the classroom for more magnetic items, making sure to stay away from the laptops and whiteboard!
We also had fun creating 2D aliens using foam shapes and googly eyes. After learning about galaxies, we made our own ‘galaxy in a bottle’ with water, food colouring, space-themed sequins, pompoms and glitter.
As part of Safer Internet Day, we joined the whole school in discussions during assembly about staying safe online. We talked about how important it is to always have an adult nearby when using a device. To help reinforce the message, we sang a catchy song – ask your child if they remember the words!
Finally, there has been lots of discussions about germs and how we need to look after ourselves. To reinforce the importance of handwashing we watched a video about a germ investigation. We wanted to try this ourselves! We sprinkled some black pepper into a bowl of water and these were our ‘germs’, we dipped our fingers into the bowl and saw how the ‘germs’ stuck to our fingers. We spoke about how we could see these ‘germs’ as they were big but, in fact, germs are very tiny and we can’t normally see them. Next, we dipped our fingers into some liquid soap and saw how the pepper/germs dispersed. We now realise how magical soap is and we are going to remember to use it every time we wash our hands!
After half term, we will dive into the world of fairy tales, starting with Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
