In art and design, we’ve been incredibly busy experimenting with different materials. Using paint sticks, ready mixed paint, sticks and straw, we created scenes from the story. We also modelled pigs out of clay. First, we shaped the clay into cylinders for the bodies, then used matchsticks to make the pigs’ eyes and nostrils, finally adding pink pipe cleaners for their curly tails. After the models dried, we painted them. We also practised our cutting skills by making pig puppets using lolly sticks and Sellotape, which we later used for storytelling. We had a lot of fun re-enacting the story with character masks, and we couldn’t stop laughing as we joined in with the famous refrain, “I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down.” Using the story sack puppets, sticks, wooden bricks and straw, we acted out the story as a group.
We have also celebrated Shrove Tuesday by eating pancakes and learning about how other countries celebrate. The cream buns from Sweden and Estonia looked especially delicious!
Of course, World Book Day was one of the highlights of the week. The children loved coming to class dressed as their favourite book characters. We spent time sharing stories, making bookmarks and drawing pictures of ourselves in character.
A quick request, we would be very grateful if any toilet roll tubes could be brought into school for an upcoming art project.
