As part of our creative activities, we made stars using star-shaped cutters and pipe cleaners to create ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’. The children carefully manipulated the pipe cleaners around the cutters before twisting the ends to create hooks, developing their fine motor skills.
We had great fun with Five Little Speckled Frogs in our small world play, singing the rhyme and making the frogs jump off the logs. We also created our own scenes by cutting and sticking the characters onto backgrounds, and enjoyed painting frog pictures using paint and cotton wool buds.
For Incy Wincy Spider, we made spider puppets and rescued the spiders from their webs using tweezers. We also carried out a science investigation to discover how and why spiders do not stick to their own webs, but flies do — ask us what we found out!
We enjoyed painting polystyrene-shaped eggs before designing our own Humpty Dumpty using paint sticks, eyes, and pipe cleaners. The children also worked together to build a wall for Humpty and tested whether he would fall off.
There was plenty of water play as we explored capacity while singing Baa Baa Black Sheep. We counted how many cups or beakers it took to fill our buckets, combining maths with rhyme and play.
It has been lovely to see the children engaging so enthusiastically, recognising rhymes, and even attempting to create their own. We look forward to continuing to develop these skills through stories, music, and play.
Our topic next week is Our Solar System.
