The children loved creating their own pigs out of clay. They shaped the bodies into cylinders, added nostrils with matchsticks, stuck on googly eyes and finished them off with curly pink pipecleaner tails. Once the models had dried, we painted them carefully. We also practised our cutting skills by making pig puppets using lolly sticks and Sellotape, which we later used for storytelling. Reenacting the tale with character masks was a highlight — especially joining in with the famous line, “I’ll huff, and I’ll puff, and I’ll blow your house down!” Using storysack puppets, sticks, wooden bricks and straw, the children worked together to bring the story to life.
World Book Day was another exciting moment in our week. The children arrived dressed as their favourite book characters and spent time sharing stories, making bookmarks and designing illustrations for their own books. We were delighted to welcome Mr Knibbs, who read The Highway Rat to the class.
A special congratulations to Henry, who was awarded a medal during his tennis lesson this week.
Our topic next week is The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
