The children had a fantastic time cutting out the characters and creating their own story scenes. We talked about how stories have a setting and a clear beginning, middle, and end, and the children worked hard to identify these elements in the tale. Using goat and troll puppets, a bridge, green fabric for the meadow, and blue fabric for the river, they acted out the story with their friends, adding even more excitement to their learning.

Our art and craft activities followed the same theme. The children made 3D goats using cardboard tubes, paint, felt, and collage materials, and they also created Billy Goat masks to use as props for their ‘trip-trapping’ adventures. One of the star challenges this week was designing their own trolls using playdough and a wonderful selection of collage materials, including feathers, pipe cleaners, wiggly eyes, matchsticks and pompoms.

After reading Me and My Mum by Alison Ritchie and Alison Edgson, the children enjoyed a lovely discussion about Mothering Sunday during circle time. They each shared something special about their mummy with great pride and excitement. They then used paper, pens, paint sticks, and collage materials to create beautiful, heartfelt cards to celebrate their very special mummies.

A huge congratulations to Kai on receiving Star of the Week at his Stage Coach club — well done!

During Circle Time, we have once again emphasised the importance of ‘listening first time’. We talked about how careful listening helps to keep us safe, especially in school, where we must respond immediately to adults in case of an emergency. We also discussed the importance of first-time listening at home time and, most importantly, staying with the adults who collect us. Please support us by ensuring your child always stays close to you during collection.

We continue to work through the Jolly Phonics scheme. Please click here  for correct sound pronunciation – it is important the children learn pure, crisp sounds from the off.

Next week, as requested by a few of the children we will be focusing on the traditional tale of Little Red Riding Hood!
