We enjoyed playing the Little Red Riding Hood board game, where we worked hard to practise turn taking and following the rules of the game; it was wonderful to see the children cooperating so positively and engaging with the story in a playful way.
In addition, the children had great fun acting out the story using puppets. Using story picture cards, they sequenced the events and retold the tale with growing confidence, helping to deepen their understanding of narrative structure.
In art, we used paper plates, paint and collage materials to create wolf faces. We also had great fun building Grandmother’s cottage using our junkmodelling resources. As we selected and combined different materials, we were able to use a range of mathematical language to describe the 3D shapes that we were working with, such as cubes, cylinders and cones before deciding if we needed to use glue, tape or the stapler to assemble them together.
We also celebrated Neurodiversity Week by sharing a story and talking about how everyone is unique and special. We explored how our brains help us learn in different ways, and how we all have our own strengths. The children thought about the many ways we can be different – how we look, the things we enjoy and the families and pets we have at home. Together, we decided that even though we are all wonderfully different, our school is a place where we grow, play and learn side by side.
Lastly, the children enjoyed watching a short video clip about how a little girl celebrating Eid with her family. It was a lovely way for us to learn about the special traditions, food and joyful moments that are part of this celebration. We would like to wish all our families celebrating this festival a happy and blessed day. We hope your celebrations are filled with happiness, togetherness and wonderful memories.
Our topic next week is Spring and Easter.
