We looked at how Mandarin Chinese is written and decided to try writing some numbers in Chinese using black paint, too. We also made Chinese lucky money wallets, as well as some fearsome 2D and 3D dragons using paint and pipets. We searched for information about Chinese New Year on the computer and learned that red is a very lucky colour and gold means wealth. We watched some amazing video clips of the dragon dance and the lion dance. Lucas came into school wearing traditional dress to celebrate Chinese New Year. We looked at the beautiful detail of the tunic and all agreed how spectacular Lucas looked.

There has been lots of fun in our Chinese restaurant role-play area as we took our friends orders and got busy cooking and serving delicious meals; we also had a try at using real chopsticks.

To finish our celebrational and very busy week, we cooked some noodles. First, we observed, touched and smelt the noodles before they went in to the boiling water – we noticed how different they were once they came out of the pan. We then insisted on trying the noodles- they were delicious.

Mr Smith visited us this week and read us a space story. We astounded him with our Cosmic space knowledge and pointed out our alien spacecrafts; he was very impressed!

Our topic next week is Aliens Love Underpants.
