We also turned our attention to Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night. We learned that Guy Fawkes didn’t follow our Golden Rules, and we used this as a springboard to talk about kindness and making good choices. The children worked collaboratively to create a firework-themed background using flicked paint, and designed their own colourful rockets using paint sticks. We explored descriptive words like bang, pop, whizz and whoosh, and read a story about a family celebrating Bonfire Night. Watching real firework displays on the whiteboard was a highlight, and we reinforced the importance of safety by reading the Firework Code and enjoying Firefighter Fred’s safety story.
We also welcomed a new classroom friend: Kindosaurus! His message – “I am kind to everyone. I use kind hands and kind words.”- is helping us build positive relationships and understand the value of sharing and caring. The children have embraced Kindosaurus with enthusiasm and are working hard to follow his example.
A special congratulations to Henry, who was awarded Half Backs Player of the Week at his rugby club – well done!
As part of our STEM morning, the children thoroughly enjoyed engaging in problem-solving activities, which involved rescuing a dinosaur from the water using stones and constructing a bridge using LEGO. These tasks encouraged critical thinking and creativity.
Next week, we will be learning about the importance of Remembrance, exploring themes of reflection, gratitude and peace, and of course the significance of poppies.
