We were excited to see what happens to our Christmas cards and letters after we put them in a real post-box. We watched a video that showed us what happens next and were amazed at the big machine that sorts small letters from the big ones, and how it even reads the postcodes on the envelopes! Everyone was really interested to see the night sorting train – we thought it looked like so much fun!
This week has been filled with creative activities. The children thoroughly enjoyed creating Christmas cards for their families, using sponge-printing with paint, along with colouring and cutting to complete their snowman card. The children also practised their cutting skills by carefully cutting out characters from The Jolly Christmas Postman story.
We had a great time exploring a maths program on the big board. The children were challenged to look carefully at different sequences of Christmas-themed pictures and work out which image should come next in the pattern. They focused brilliantly, discussed their ideas with each other, and enjoyed the festive twist on their pattern-recognition skills.
There was a lot of excitement as the children took part in the Secret Santa event; they had a wonderful time choosing presents thoughtfully for family members which they look forward to placing under their Christmas trees at home.
Our topic next week is Christmas.
