U8s first trophy! Match report by Mr Blair

The Under 8 A&Bs headed to Surbiton for the first football tournament in their Hampton Prep sports journey. The boys were in good spirits after their first competitive fixture on the Friday before hand against Claremont, which had produced a mix of results for the A to D teams.

The team was grouped Surbiton and Staines Prep in the opening round. In both games out they recorded wins, 3-0 and 5-0 respectively putting them into the Cup Semi Final against Milbourne Lodge. The game was tight and nervy for most of the game ending up with it finishing 0-0 at the end of regulation time. This led to an extra 5 minutes being played but dropping from 5 a side to 4 a side. Again, a tight cagey game resumed with Albert having a moment of calm and presence with a minute to go to slot the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner.

The boys played the final against familiar opponents in Claremont with whom they had drawn the week previously. The game started quickly with Claremont taking an early lead. Hampton responded quickly, in fact straight from kick-off with Eeshan being released down the wing in behind the defence to score and bring it back to 1-1. For the best part of the second half, both teams cancelled each other out. With 15 seconds to go, some industrious work from the Hampton boys allowed the ball to get into the Claremont penalty area with the ball landing at Noah’s feet. He struck the ball sweetly into the roof of the net with only a few seconds remaining.

The final whistle blew and the Hampton Under 8 A team had won the tournament. A big well done to the boys involved!

U10 Bs TPS Tournament Winners!

The U10 B team took part in the Twickenham Prep 7-a-side Tournament this week and came away as Cup winners, following a series of well-contested matches.

Their campaign began with a narrow 1–0 win against Holme Grange, followed by a more comfortable 3–0 victory over The Mall. The boys continued their good form with another win against Kew College, and held their own in draws against Bishopsgate and Twickenham Prep School. These results were enough to see them finish top of their group and secure the cup.

A mention goes to Sam B for his composed playmaking throughout the tournament, helping to link up play and create opportunities for the team.

Well done to all the boys involved — it was a solid team effort.

U11s Epsom Tournament

Match report by Mr Barber

Nine of the under 11 A’s made their way to Epsom this week for a tournament against 23 other schools. Placed in a formidable group, they were tested early and had to show resilience against tough opposition. Despite three close matches in the early rounds, the boys were unable to clinch a win, and their points put them into the Bowl Competition. In the knockout round that followed, they won both matches convincingly with five and six goals respectively with none in response in either match. The boys should resilience, teamwork and improved throughout the morning. They were deserved recipients of silverware and hungry to improve in future matches.  Siddarth showcased excellent shot stopping; Gem, Jack, Caleb and Taran were strong in defence and improved their tactical understanding as the games progressed; Jazz, Barnabas and Christian put in a shift in midfield: working well in defence and attack with numerous goals being scored by the trio; Oliver was determined and skilful in attack, poaching goals by putting pressure on the keepers and scoring and setting up well worked goals. Well done boys!
