We looked at the values of the Olympics – excellence, respect and friendship – and how they relate to our own school sporting values of sportsmanship, effort and team over self, underpinned by the qualities of physicality, communication and alertness. We considered the purpose of a value in nudging us towards behaviours that enable success.
Finally, we heard the story of Fernando Rufino, the Iron Cowboy. A Paralympian whose barely believable story sums up the quote from basketball coach, Harry Sheehy, ‘It is your response to winning and losing that makes you a winner or a loser.’
With the boys already busy working hard on their football, we in the Sports Department are excited to see these values and qualities in action on the pitches and further guiding the boys towards success this year.
One boy who has certainly been working hard on his sport is Barnabas in Year 5 as referenced by Mr Smith above. An amazing effort at a national level competition and well done to him!
