Dodgeball is a superb builder of fundamental movement skills: sprinting, catching, over‑arm throwing, dodging, skipping, and jumping are all in constant demand, and the high‑intensity nature of the game provides a fantastic conditioning benefit. It’s a great skills development sport and supports their development in rugby.
Fortunately, our U10 and U11 teams have enjoyed kinder weather, allowing for full rugby training and fixtures. On Wednesday, the U11s travelled to Richmond Athletic Ground for a set of tag rugby matches against Radnor House Prep. Tries flowed freely across all three games, with the As edging a thrilling 12–11 victory. The Bs and Cs were also involved in closely fought contests, narrowly losing 8–9 and 7–8 respectively.
The U10s benefited from a purposeful afternoon of training fixtures against Twickenham Prep, similar to their productive session with Bishopsgate before Christmas. The boys worked progressively through the age‑grade rules, moving from touch towards full contact rugby, with regular pauses for coaching and feedback. It proved to be an invaluable learning experience and an excellent way to accelerate their understanding of the game.
With the forecast looking far more promising next week, we are hopeful for a less disrupted sports programme.
