Reception have been having an ‘egg-cellent’ time thinking about Spring time and Easter! The children have enjoyed decorating a spring tree, painting a still life vase of daffodils with watercolours and finger printing chicks with fantastic detailing giving lots of personality to each chick!

In Literacy, we wrote a detailed account of our trip to RHS Wisley. We looked at the photos of the day to encourage a detailed recall of all the amazing things we had seen and done. It seems that the children thoroughly enjoyed the coach journey and picnic lunch in the sunshine was also a highlight! Alongside the planting of a seed, we walked through the Oak wood hunting for petals, leaves and pine cones, and stepping back in time as dinosaur explorers! Many of the children tried their best at independently writing, writing their sentences, using a word map for support, alongside some fabulously detailed drawings.

In mathematics, lots of addition and subtraction number sentences have been completed and we have been perfecting our number formation by practising numerals on whiteboards. We have also been learning the mathematical names for 3D shapes. We played some fun sorting 2D and 3D shape games, the children especially enjoyed sorting Miss Johnston’s shopping by 3D shape, talking about each object’s packaging properties, making comments on number of sides, faces and corners, or if it would roll.

We are super ‘egg-cited’ about the Easter Egg hunt next week, we will be making bunny ears in anticipation of the Easter Bunnies arrival! We look forward to seeing you at our ‘Open Classroom’ Easter sing-song on Wednesday at 3pm!
