In art this week, we created our own unique Forest Folk out of clay and our autumn treasures, which we had collected in our autumn bags last weekend. We had great fun manipulating the clay to form our unique models, adding gorgeous natural details such as pine cone noses, leaf hats, and googly eyes! On the tuff tray, we enjoyed using tweezers to remove the creepy crawlies from the leaves, really testing our fine motor skills.

In mathematics, we have been thinking about time and the times of day. The children have been talking about night and day, and ordering events in their daily routines. We have also been learning the language used to describe events, such as day and night, dawn and dusk, before and after, today and tomorrow, as well as morning, afternoon, and evening. We have also been learning about the numbers 1, 2, and 3, including finding, subitising, and representing them. We’ve been practising our number formation, ensuring that we form our numbers correctly.

On Friday, Reception class enjoyed performing their first assembly based on the theme ‘100 Wonderful Years’.  The class took us back in time with a time machine to appreciate the 100 wonderful years and the previous assemblies we enjoyed watching. We then jumped inside our time machine to look to the future and imagine what a school in 2124 might be like. The children had some fantastic ideas, including arriving at school in a flying car, using rocket boots and space packs at playtime, and being taught by robot teachers! We then invited our friends in Pre-Prep to join us in helping to fill a time capsule to celebrate our 100 year centenary. Once complete, our amazing time capsule will be buried in the garden, sending a message to future Pre-Prep children. Imagine the children of the future opening the capsule and getting a glimpse of our world today in 2024.

Well done, Reception, for settling so well into your new class routines and working so hard this half term! We hope you have a fabulous half-term break. Don’t forget to complete your half-term holiday snapshots to share when you return to school! Please also remember to empty your book bag and enjoy looking at all your hard work.

After the half-term break, we will be thinking about autumn festivals and Remembrance Day.
