A special visitor has arrived in our classroom this week, a class Elf! The Christmas Elf arrived with a letter explaining that Reception classroom was under special ‘elf surveillance’ looking for acts of kindness and friendship. The children have been thrilled by our mischievous elf’s antics, adding a sprinkle of magic to our days – the children decided to call our visitor, ‘Elfie’. We are looking forward to replying to his letter next week. If any child wishes to write to Elfie this weekend, I am sure he would love to receive a Christmas message!
We have enjoyed taking part in the rehearsals at the Prep, the children have been diligently practising their songs. We used this as inspiration for our writing about ‘The First Christmas’ where the children drew a picture and copy wrote a sentence to accompany their drawing.
In mathematics this week, we have been adding ‘one more’ and ‘one less’ and counting forwards and backwards using the number line and number fans. They will learn that ‘one less’ is the opposite of ‘one more’ and that it means the number that comes before the starting number they were originally given. Practising activities involving counting ‘one more’ and ‘one less’ helps reinforce the idea of ‘greater than’ and ‘less than’ and is a starting point for addition and subtraction with larger numbers.
We have had a highly creative week; the classroom is a very glittery place to be! We made a Christmas bauble for your Christmas tree at home. We have been busy making our classroom Christmassy and have enjoyed exploring Santa’s Workshop, a Nativity tuff tray and have built Santa a chimney from bricks.
Christmas continues next week!
