We examined our tongues in mirrors, naming the parts we could see, and were amazed to discover that children have more taste buds than adults! We discussed a variety of tastes and had the opportunity to try sweet strawberry jam, bitter dark chocolate, salty crisps, and sour lemon. The children shared their favourites and described the flavours of each food.
We also explored how our noses work. Using pestles and mortars in the tuff tray, the children ground herbs into water, releasing and enjoying their different aromas. We investigated basil, rosemary, mint, and thyme, discussing their unique scents.
In mathematics, we have been playing a ten-frame bus and passenger game to visually represent odd and even numbers. Even numbers have the same number of passengers on each deck of the bus, while odd numbers have different numbers on each deck! We then applied our new odd and even number recognition skills by playing a game with our talking partners. Additionally, we have been using a 100-square to count and recognise larger numbers.
Next week, we are looking forward to learning about ‘Road Safety’. On Friday 14th February, we will be taking part in a Scooter Skills Workshop with our Junior Travel Ambassador friends from the Prep! If your child has a scooter and helmet at home that they would like to bring in, please do so. We also have school scooters available for children to use.
(Please ensure all scooters and helmets are named and bring them into the classroom on Friday morning so we can park them in our Reception outdoor area.)
