Reception children got creative with their writing this week thinking about what it would be like to live as a farm animal for a day? They chose their favourite animal and then imagined waking up in a cosy barn, stretching their legs, and heading out to explore the farm. They thought about the sights, sounds, and adventures they might have— even thinking that there might be a race with the other animals or a surprise visit from the farmer!

On Tuesday we were delighted to welcome the author Anya Tuckwell-Jassar to Pre-Prep for an Early Years ‘Story Workshop’ this week. The author shared her uplifting tale of ‘Flingo the Flamingo’. The children were enchanted by Flingo’s journey—a flamingo with a fear of flying who discovered the joy of movement through dance. The story’s message of resilience, self-expression, and finding alternative ways to overcome challenges. It was wonderful to see the children’s enthusiasm as they connected with Flingo’s courage and determination, reminding us all that there is more than one way to take flight. We particularly enjoyed the story as this clever picture book contained both a story and a fact book about flamingos.
In mathematics, we tested our coin recognition, playing a game solving money problems. The children loved testing themselves, perhaps they could look at some coins at home, too?

Next week our topic is all about colour.
