On Wednesday, we delved into the history of Bonfire Night, discovering the fascinating story of Guy Fawkes and his plot to blow up King James I and the Houses of Parliament. This sparked great curiosity and led to some wonderful discussions. Inspired by fireworks and the theme of light, the children worked in three groups to collaboratively write Bonfire Night poems. It was a joy to hear their creativity shine through, especially in their use of descriptive adjectives to capture the excitement of a bonfire night celebration.

In mathematics, we’ve been learning to tell the time using o’clock, exploring the days of the week, and discussing the differences between day and night. The children reflected on their daily routines, sharing what they do during the day and at night, which helped reinforce their understanding of time and sequence.

On Thursday morning, Reception took part in a hands-on STEM ‘Learn to Build’ Lego workshop, where they were challenged to design and build an Eco House. It was fantastic to hear the children confidently explain their ideas – many included solar panels, wind turbines and even green roofs to help clean the air and provide homes for bees and mini beasts. Their thoughtful and imaginative designs were truly impressive!

We also enjoyed sharing half-term holiday snapshots, with children speaking in lovely detail about their travels and experiences. It was a wonderful way to build speaking and listening skills while celebrating their adventures.

In art, we created colourful shape collage rockets featuring each child’s name. This activity helped us to practice letter formation and to count the letters in our names, combining creativity with early literacy and numeracy skills!

Looking ahead, over the next two weeks we will be learning about wild animals from around the world, exploring themes of animal conservation and zoos. We’re excited to continue our journey of discovery.
