This led to some interesting discussions about endangered animals and animal conservation – how we must look after all these precious animals and their habitats. It was lovely to hear how passionate Reception are about this subject and how saddened they are to see litter in their environment.
Each child researched and then printed out a picture of their favourite wild animal. Using the picture for reference, we are going sketch and paint a detailed picture. We will be adding our paintings to our class ‘Endangered Animal’ display around a beautiful collage of Earth. We were amazed at how many animals are endangered in the main due to the actions of humans causing both changes to their habitats and pollution.
On Tuesday we learnt about Armistice Day and Remembrance Sunday and discussed the significance of these events. We talked about poppies too and wrote about why we wear them. We each printed a poppy with a balloon and enjoyed colouring and crafting collage poppies to wear. We thought about those who lost their lives in wars and marked the occasion with two minutes reflection.
In mathematics, we have been learning to tell the time using o’clock and have been learning to recite the days of the week in the correct order. We also made ourselves a paper plate clock to practise telling the time to o’clock at home.
We have also been learning about positional language and had great fun positioning our bear with baskets and poppies. It was fantastic to hear such creative positional language actively being used!
Next week, we are continuing the theme with another week of learning about wild animals!
