Our story time was extra exciting with the much-loved flap book Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell. The children delighted in lifting flaps to reveal different animals and retelling the story using our small-world zoo. They shared fun facts and gave thoughtful reasons for keeping or returning animals to the zoo! Each child created a beautifully illustrated page for our class storybook, complete with a flap hiding their chosen animal.
The children engaged in a creative activity that strengthened their fine motor skills by carefully quilling and coiling strips of paper. They used these intricate designs to embellish their photographs, transforming them into striking portraits with textured lion’s manes that showcased both their patience and artistic flair! Reception class also researched endangered animals with Mrs O’Brien and printed out photos to carefully copy and paint.
In maths, we’ve been busy finding, subitising, and representing numbers through practical activities. We explored addition and subtraction while using mathematical language.
Next week, we’ll dive into the fabulous story Stick Man by Julia Donaldson and start thinking about… Christmas trees!
