We also had great fun pretending to be lollipop people and drivers, making sure our pedestrians crossed the road safely. In the classroom, we talked at length about how to crossroads carefully, and the children showed a really strong understanding of the need to “stop, look, listen and think.”

A surprise visitor — Super Cat, our road‑safety superhero — taught us a brilliant rap with actions. The children were inspired by his ability to swoop in and prevent road‑crossing disasters, so we wrote our own stories about him. We explored how stories have a beginning to set the scene, an exciting middle, and an ending that ties up all the loose ends. The children produced some fantastic stories and proudly shared their books with friends.

On Wednesday morning, we enjoyed the most fabulous spell of sunshine in what has otherwise been a very wet week, giving us the perfect opportunity to practise our road safety skills outdoors. A huge thank‑you to our Prep Teachers and our wonderful Prep Junior Travel Ambassador friends for supporting us!

In art, we explored different types of vehicles by searching online for our favourites, which we printed and then painted using watercolours. Our classroom now boasts an amazing vehicle gallery, featuring everything from police cars and helicopters to motorbikes, bicycles and even fast jets! We also had a great time creating road maps with partners, complete with road signs and pedestrian crossings.

It has been an exciting, imaginative and very safe week in Reception!

Next week we will be learning about preparations for Luna New Year the ‘Year of the Horse’ for the 17th February
