We celebrated World Book Day on Wednesday. The children arrived in the most amazing costumes, each one adding to the joy and creativity of the day. We began with a book hunt in the playground, where the children searched for hidden numbers and worked together to sequence and order them to reveal their story treasure – much to our delight, it was a copy of the much loved story The Tiger Who Came to Tea! We are incredibly grateful to Viraj’s mummy for kindly donating the books that made this activity possible.

The celebrations continued with our Book Day parade, where the children proudly showcased their characters, followed by a very special bookcharacter showandtell. The day ended beautifully with Kasen’s mummy reading us a story in Chinese, which the children listened to with great interest. It was a lovely way to celebrate stories from a different culture, and we would like to extend our thanks once again for all the support that made the day so special.

In mathematics, we have been focusing on number bonds to 10, practising through a range of practical activities. We have also been representing the numbers 9 and 10, and exploring the different ways they can be made.

On Friday, the children enjoyed a wonderful visit to the Clore Learning Centre at RHS Wisley, where they took part in a planting workshop. We explored how plants grow and what they need to stay healthy, examining everything from tiny shoots to towering trees. Our visit also included a long walk through the oak wood in search of buds, flowers, fruit and seeds, followed by a wander through the pine forest to see the impressive redwood trees. The children represented the school beautifully throughout the day, and we were very proud of them.

Our topic next week is ‘Iconic Buildings and Towers’. To help us get started, we would love to create a display of the children visiting famous landmarks. If you have any photos of your child at an iconic building, either in the UK or abroad, please share them with us via the email address:

We are hoping to create a fabulous display showcasing where we have been! These images will help spark discussion and support our learning – thank you in advance!
