Inspired by this learning, the children then became architects themselves, designing their very own dream homes. Their creations were full of imagination and flair, featuring houses built on water, homes with wheels, and innovative eco‑friendly designs. It was a joy to see how confidently and creatively they expressed their ideas.
On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome Mr Thompson, who read Iggy Peck, Architect by Andrea Beaty. The children thoroughly enjoyed this story about a young boy with a passion for building and a talent that ultimately saves the day. It was a wonderful opportunity to deepen their understanding of what architects do while enjoying a beautifully told tale.
Throughout the week, the children have also been busy building and constructing in both the classroom and outdoor area. They worked together to bring their designs to life using construction toys, developing their fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and problem‑solving abilities. Alongside this, we learned about the different jobs involved in the construction industry, including the roles of architects, engineers, and builders.
If your child has visited any iconic buildings, either locally or further afield, please do send in a photo. You can email pictures to s.annandale-johnston@hamptonprep.org.uk. A huge thank you to everyone who has already contributed. The display of photos is growing beautifully, and the children are thoroughly enjoying seeing the amazing places their friends have visited.
In mathematics, we have been practising addition and subtraction using a number line. The children worked carefully, counting their answers by making jumps forwards and backwards. We also revisited 2D and 3D shapes, naming them and identifying their properties with increasing confidence.
Next week, we will be turning our attention to the changing seasons as we search for signs of spring. We are very much hoping for some sunny days to help us in our explorations!
