This week in Reception we have been thinking about our topic Mindfulness & Water, taking a closer look at water, learning about the seas and oceans and the many sea creatures that live in them.  We enjoyed writing our own ‘sea creature riddles’. Writing clues describing in detail facts about our chosen sea creature. We then covered our drawings with sea flaps to hide the sea creature and had great fun guessing everyone’s choices!

This week, we had great fun investigating floating and sinking, making predictions about materials and their properties. We used lots of words to describe the mass and thought carefully about what would float on the surface or sink to the bottom of our tank. We were surprised by some of our findings!

We worked together in small groups to make collaborative sea scape collages. The children selected their own craft resources and used their imaginations to create the most amazing sea worlds.

In mathematics, we have been looking at our teen numbers in more depth.  We have practised forming the numbers correctly with some sea creature themed activities.

On Friday, we celebrated the 100th birthday of Sir David Attenborough by reflecting on his incredible work and the important message he shares about caring for our planet. We talked about the need to protect wildlife and conserve natural habitats so that animals can thrive for future generations. The children discussed simple ways they can help, such as reducing waste and looking after the environment, helping them to understand their role in making a positive difference to the world around them

Next week, we will carry on our topic of ‘Mindfulness and Water’ with a focus on frogs and the frog life cycle!
